The objectives of the group are
four-fold:
To
develop national policies for interagency cooperation and
information sharing
To
develop education and training for professionals such as
schoolteachers, early childhood educators, doctors, and
veterinarians so they can be attentive to signs indicating the
need for early intervention, and how to respond effectively and
appropriately
To
enhance public awareness of this link and to cultivate a public
attitude that recognizes violence without separating animal
violence from human violence.
To establish
practical support systems such as networks for fostering the
animals taken from violent situations by women and children
seeking refuge. As was found in the US, Australian research showed
that some women delay leaving violent situations because they
fear for the animals left behind, but are faced with Refuges
that do not permit pets.
